On Thursday, June 18, 2015, Tiverton based criminal defense lawyer, Robert H. Humphrey, Esq., once again lectured the attorneys of the State of Rhode Island on “Refusal Cases & Hardship Licenses” before the Rhode Island Traffic Tribunal (“RITT”). As part of the Rhode Island Bar Association’s Annual Meeting, held at the Convention Center in Providence, RI, over one hundred (100) attorneys were in attendance for the seminar on Refusal cases and hardship licenses.
The seminar began with a refresher course on the basics components of DUI cases and Refusal cases. Thereafter, the focus of the seminar shifted to issues beyond the basics including hardship licenses and ignition interlock devices. Specifically, recent changes to the Refusal statute (R.I.G.L. 31-27-2.1) and the Ignition Interlock System Statute (R.I.G.L. 31-27-2.8) were addressed. The seminar included discussions on the hardship license hearings, how to get the ignition interlock device installed, working with the Registry and the monitoring of the ignition interlock devices.
The Rhode Island Bar Association Refusal seminar concluded with lively discussion between RITT magistrates, prosecutors and defense attorneys exchanging ideas and their experiences in connection with Refusal cases and hardship licenses.
